The gallery festival with international curators in Vienna.
A central event of Vienna’s contemporary art scene, curated by is an international platform for artistic and intellectual exchange. 24 galleries – both established and up and coming – will open their doors to international curators and artists, exploring the theme COMEDY.
Alongside the exhibitions, the festival will feature a programme of performances, tours and talks
related to this year’s theme.
Let's get physical – and digital
curated by welcomes and encourages the public’s presence in physical exhibition spaces while
expanding its digital presence. This year, curated by debuts its immersive website
(www.curatedby.at), alongside social media channels and livestreams that offer in-depth video
content and extend the visitors’ experience.
Thematic tension between comedy and tragedy
This year’s theme, COMEDY, explores motifs in literature, history, philosophy and art through the lens of recent events. Curators and artists will present their interpretations of comedy and tragedy, their contradictions, commonalities and symbioses. COMEDY will inspire discussion and critique of
contemporary events, political activism and Vienna’s artistic legacy.
Theorist and activist Estelle Hoy’s essay on this year’s theme, COMEDY, can be accessed here.
After the turbulence of the past year, we Viennese gallerists are optimistic that we’ll once again make the Austrian capital the most exciting place for contemporary art during the gallery festival.
"After the turbulence of the past year, we Viennese gallerists are optimistic that we’ll once again make the Austrian capital the most exciting place for contemporary art during the gallery festival. In the past years, curated by has consistently managed to reflect current trends and influences by showcasing contemporary art in all its diversity – and we want to continue it this year, with the theme COMEDY" – Natascha Burger, Robby Greif, Helga Krobath and Cornelis van Almsick, board members of curated
