Conceived and curated by Maryam Palizban
Presented by CONSTANZA MACRAS | DORKY PARK
From 12 to 14 December 2025, the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz presents the festival 3 Days to Liberation II. The three-day program is curated by theatre scholar and artist Maryam Palizban and is produced in collaboration with Dorky Park under the direction of Constanza Macras. At its core are stories of violence, resistance, and remembrance, explored through films, performances, conversations, and music.
The festival takes as its starting point current social developments and the rise of political repression in various parts of the world. 3 Days to Liberation II asks how people manage to preserve their dignity, their voice, and their hope under such conditions. The program weaves personal biographies with collective experiences, opening up new perspectives on freedom, justice, and civil courage.
The festival opens on Friday in the Red Salon with the documentary My Stolen Planet (2024, 82’, Farsi with English subtitles) by director Farahnaz Sharifi, a film about memory, identity, and invisible life-worlds. Afterwards, the panel Echoes of Uprising brings together artists, activists, and scholars to discuss political uprisings, their traces, and the role of art in such times. Later in the evening, the Green Salon hosts the DJ set Vinyl Memories (Persian pop from the 60s and 70s), which foregrounds music as a form of remembrance and a collective experience.
On Saturday, the film Women Who Said No by Sepehr Atefi focuses on the stories of Bahá’í women executed in Iran in 1983. The subsequent conversation, Against Violence, explores questions of witnessing, mourning, and justice. In the early evening, the performance HAPPY BIRTHDAY by Sahar Rezaei addresses everyday life between precarity, intimacy, and self-assertion. Later, the panel The Stage as Witness discusses artistic work in exile, as well as the significance of the stage and the body as sites of political experience. The second day concludes with a concert by Duo Azadi.
Sunday is dedicated to reflection and exchange. The conversation Between Memory and Survival (Green Salon, 4 pm, 1h) explores how we engage with the past and with aging. This is followed by a discussion on Kurdish women’s movements, gender relations, and political self-organisation (Green Salon, 5:30 pm, 1,5h).
The festival concludes with the performance ELECTRODOMESTICS, which shows how music, language, dance, and storytelling can create an open space for identity, belonging, and collective memory. 3 Days to Liberation II aims to make visible those people and experiences that are often suppressed or overheard. It seeks to create a space where listening, dialogue, and artistic expression can help to address violence and rearticulate hope.
Tickets must be purchased individually for each event and range from €6 to €18 (reduced €6
to €9). Tickets can be purchased via this link or at the evening box office.
