STREETWARE saved item revolutionizes Berlin Fashion Week! With a demonstrative catwalk of socio-economic utopia, Berlin's most sustainable fashion label challenges fast fashion to contribute to sustainable fashion standards, fair production methods and decolonized lifestyles in a diversity look. The demonstrative walk will take place on September 12 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Tempelhofer Feld.
The focus will be on fashion creations that offer a bunch of curiosities. Because STREETWARE believes in the spirit of discarded rags, the participatory art project draws its material directly from the asphalt of Neukölln: in the streets of Berlin, pullovers, joggers and the like cover the surfaces from the gutter to the front door. STREETWARE examines the culture of stripped clothing for its social significance - what does it say about our consumption, our way of life, our identity?
Through the artistic staging of third-hand textiles, STREETWARE brings the dark sides of the fashion industry into focus: low wages, poor working conditions, environmental pollution due to non-sustainable raw material extraction and mass surpluses of a throwaway society. In order to set new standards in the context of Berlin Fashion Week, SREETWARE presents highly political fashion that creates an unbounded space for observing and reflecting: questionable ideals of beauty and aesthetics dictated by the fashion industry are put up for debate. On Tempelhofer Feld, STREETWARE's collections will be presented on the catwalk by models whose unique charisma will break down any normative concepts and demonstrate what beauty really means.
As a special highlight STREETWARE X MIVUMBA shows the first pieces of postcolonial Haute Couture, which were created in Uganda together with local designers and tailors. This political fashion combines European as well as American second-hand textiles with traditional African print.
