Since 1974 to be found in the centre of the Huguenot city in the Palais Stutterheim, the Kunstpalais is the succeeding institution of the Municipal Gallery Erlangen. After two years of renovation the Kunstpalais was re-opened in 2010. With a new programme and new direction the exhibition space of 500 sqm on the ground floor and the basement has almost doubled.
The exhibition programme concentrates on relevant approaches in the international art scene which are linked to contemporary discourses within and beyond the world of art. Conceptual references to literature, philosophy and film are considered particularly. Interdisciplinary supporting programmes help to embed the artistic contents on a broad social level.
Das Kunstpalais ist die Nachfolgeeinrichtung der Städtischen Galerie Erlangen. Diese befindet sich seit 1974 im Palais Stutterheim, das 1728 bis 1730 erbaut wurde und im Zentrum der Hugenottenstadt gelegen ist. Nach zweijähriger Renovierungsphase wurde das Kunstpalais mit einer auf knapp 500 m² verdoppelten Ausstellungsfläche im Erdgeschoss und Untergeschoss des Palais Stutterheim neu eröffnet. Mit neuem Programm und unter neuer Leitung.
Das Ausstellungsprogramm des Kunstpalais konzentriert sich auf relevante Positionen der internationalen Kunstszene, die Anschluss an den zeitgenössischen Diskurs innerhalb und außerhalb der Kunst bieten. Konzeptionelle Bezüge zu Fragestellungen der Literatur, der Philosophie und des Films finden dabei besondere Berücksichtigung. Interdisziplinäre Begleitprogramme verankern die Inhalte der Kunst auf breiter gesellschaftlicher Ebene.
