What would a monument commemorating migration experiences look like? In which ways can migration memories be shared and preserved? In what ways can a collective approach contribute to expanding the culture of remembrance in public spaces? In this context, what role can emerging digital formats play?
Our project aims to trace migration memories and at the same time create new monuments that merge digital and urban spaces. Throughout the development of the memorial, stories and visual ideas are shared and the form of the monument is defined jointly through public meetings at the Spore Initiative in Neukölln and elsewhere in Berlin. In a series of audio-visual artistic representations, Alternative Monument for Germany connects migration stories, testimonies, and visual memories of migrants and refugees living in Berlin. In the fabric of our shared urban space, poetic, subjective and subversive experiences connect spaces around the world. The purpose of this project is to set a positive context for the discourse on migration and counteract current xenophobic movements; we propose an alternative to populist right-wing ideologies such as AfD's "Alternative für Deutschland". We approach migration from the perspective of its potential to weave memories and spaces into a future shared space, which is a safe environment created by diverse, evolving communities. We focus on queer feminist voices since these have long been silenced in our context.
As part of the AR - Augmented Reality monument creation process, renowned cultural workers will deliver lectures, discussions, workshops, and performances.
The ADfD - OPEN CALL program is open to artists, scholars, activists, and citizens (...). A fixed sum of 300€ will be compensated to participants for their commitment and participation in the 6 day workshop. The workshop will take place from 29th April to 5th May 2024 (1st May is a holiday and is off). A follow-up session for feedback on the 9th and 10th of June 2024. It is therefore expected that you will be available on these dates.
In September, the public presentations will take place on the 7th and 8th and on the 14th and 15th (more information will be disclosed during the workshop)
We can accommodate 10 participants in the workshop and program. Public attendance is allowed at most of the Guest Presentations. In addition to English and German, German sign language (DGS) is available on request. Spore is a wheelchair-accessible location.
If possible, send us 2-3 work samples (artworks, texts, or projects), along with a short description of your background and interest in the project. Please include your contact information, the languages you speak, if you have special needs, childcare, communication assistance, accessibility, if applicable.

Wie würde ein Denkmal für Migration aussehen? Auf welche Weise können Migrationserinnerungen geteilt und bewahrt werden? Auf welche Weise kann ein kollektiver Ansatz dazu beitragen, die Erinnerungskultur im öffentlichen Raum zu erweitern? Welche Rolle können in diesem Zusammenhang neue digitale Formate spielen?
Unser Projekt zielt darauf ab, Migrationserinnerungen aufzuspüren und gleichzeitig neue Denkmäler zu schaffen, die digitale und urbane Räume miteinander verbinden. Während der Entwicklung des Denkmals werden Geschichten und visuelle Ideen ausgetauscht und die Form des Denkmals wird gemeinsam in öffentlichen Treffen in der Spore Initiative in Neukölln und anderswo in Berlin definiert. In einer Reihe von audiovisuellen künstlerischen Darstellungen verbindet das Alternative Denkmal für Deutschland Migrationsgeschichten, Zeugnisse und visuelle Erinnerungen von in Berlin lebenden Migranten und Flüchtlingen. Im Gewebe unseres gemeinsamen urbanen Raums verbinden poetische, subjektive und subversive Erfahrungen Räume auf der ganzen Welt. Das Ziel dieses Projekts ist es, einen positiven Kontext für den Diskurs über Migration zu schaffen und den aktuellen fremdenfeindlichen Bewegungen entgegenzuwirken. Wir schlagen eine Alternative zu rechtspopulistischen Ideologien wie der "Alternative für Deutschland" der AfD vor. Wir nähern uns der Migration aus der Perspektive ihres Potenzials, Erinnerungen und Räume zu einem zukünftigen gemeinsamen Raum zu verweben, der eine sichere Umgebung ist, die von vielfältigen, sich entwickelnden Gemeinschaften geschaffen wird. Wir konzentrieren uns auf queer-feministische Stimmen, da diese in unserem Kontext lange Zeit zum Schweigen gebracht wurden.
Im Rahmen der AR - Augmented Reality Monument Produktion und des Workshops werden renommierte Kulturschaffende Vorträge, Diskussionen, Workshops und Performances durchführen.
Das ADfD - OPEN CALL ist offen für Künstler:innen, Wissenschaftler:innen, Aktivist:innen und Bürger:innen (...). Die Teilnehmer:innen erhalten für ihr Engagement und ihre Teilnahme an dem 6-tägigen Workshop einen Festbetrag von 300€. Der Workshop findet vom 29. April bis zum 5. Mai 2024 statt (der 1. Mai ist ein Feiertag). Am 9. und 10. Juni 2024 findet eine Follow-up-Sitzung für Feedback statt. Es wird daher erwartet, dass Sie an diesen Terminen verfügbar sind.
Im September werden die öffentlichen Präsentationen am 7. und 8. sowie am 14. und 15. September stattfinden (weitere Informationen werden während des Workshops bekannt gegeben).
Wir können 10 Teilnehmer:innen für den Workshop und das Programm unterbringen. Bei den meisten Gastvorträgen ist eine öffentliche Teilnahme möglich. Zusätzlich zu Englisch und Deutsch ist auf Anfrage auch Gebärdensprache (DGS) verfügbar. Spore ist ein rollstuhlgerechter Veranstaltungsort.
