  • Refuge Worldwide
Refuge was started as a fundraising platform working in solidarity with grassroots and non-profit organizations. In January 2021, we launched Refuge Worldwide, a new radio station to amplify the music and issues that we care about, broadcasting 24/7 from Weserstraße 166, (12045 Berlin Neukölln).

From our home in Berlin Neukölln, Oona Bar, we now host weekly workshops, training programs, and classes in media, creative fields, and mental health. These are free to attend as part of our community outreach. Refuge Worldwide is also involved in a number of collaborative projects around the globe with like-minded collectives, radio stations, and activists.

This month we are focusing on projects born from members of our immediate team, the past and present staff members of Refuge Worldwide, and our Neukölln homebase Oona Bar. With a team ranging in many talents, there were lots of events, releases, and initiatives to choose from. Here are three favorites.

Initiative:

Launched in 2018 by our web developer Jack, Freeform Radio Directory (formerly Underground Radio Directory) aims to bring together the best freeform radio stations from across the globe. FRD collates all the stations into one listenable place allowing you to discover new stations, listen to your favorites, and explore the world of freeform internet radio.

Event:

On August 19, our friend Kolja is hosting a fundraiser night at Lark, in support of their gender-affirming surgery and in celebration of trans joy. DJs on the night will be Bugalovvv & M8nse and DJ G2G & Ryong in B2B pairings, as well as Thai artist Wanton Witch, Isaka, and a live set from Wet Kiss. Doors at 11 PM, bring good vibes and coins!

Release:

Peach Discs, the record label our studio and production manager Gramrcy runs together with Shanti Celeste, has just released its third compilation, Peach Pals, Vol. 3. Described as “eight slices of the juiciest dancefloor material squeezed out of new and/or friendly faces from across the globe,” the collection came out at the end of July. On the tracklist, find friends of Refuge Worldwide such as Katiusha, Fernanda Arrau, and Stephen Howe, as well as the likes of Kepler and Nelson of the East.
